3DEXPERIENCE treats each revision separately for drawings and their model references in 3DEXPERIENCE on Cloud. This is a topic that comes up frequently during training with SOLIDWORKS users. There is no way to systematically enforce the model and drawing revisions to remain synchronized. However, there is a way to upcycle both the drawing and reference concurrently, so that the 2 objects remain at the same revision level.
That’s where the Collaborative Lifecycle web application comes into view. This app is very powerful for several things including direct access to history, maturity state, and other PLM functions. Adding the Collaborative Lifecycle App to a standard dashboard is a good first step.
As seen above, I can easily drag an object(s) into the Collaborative Lifecycle app to reveal its history and perform lifecycle operations. I’ve split between Bookmark Editor for quick retrieval of objects, and I can drag the desired object to the Collaborative Lifecycle app.
In the image below, I bookmarked the lower bracket part, but not its drawing. That’s ok- I can leverage the side panel information pane to see the CAD Dependency via the All Relations button.
It’s a good idea to bookmark SOLIDWORKS items right at the time of the first save; however, as this was not the case, I can easily drag the drawing into the desired bookmark with a standard drag/ drop, as seen below. Bookmarks provide structure and we can easily use them in a transient manner to see the necessary information at any given time.
Both the part and its drawing are at revision A.1- I drag them to the Collaborative Lifecycle app as below. I multi-select both objects and choose New Revision from the bottom Action Bar.
Afterward, we can see now 2 parts and 2 drawings in the same Collaborative Lifecycle web app.
Checking revision A.2 of the drawing shows the related part as the same revision.
Some companies prefer models and drawings to have revisions synchronized. While this cannot be automated, companies can standardize this practice across their user base to decrease the chances of mismatched revisions for drawings/ model references.
