Jump Start your Productivity with 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud PLM Standard

3DEXPERIENCE offers pre-built packages to allow organizations to expand inside the 3DEXPERIENCE platform gradually over time. The platform is a very expansive ecosystem of tools and attempting to implement too much, too quickly can offer more problems than benefits. The 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud PLM Standard Offer is a common next step to take on your cloud data management journey.

Many of our clients have adopted cloud data management with 3DEXPERIENCE starting with their design team regardless of whether they are using SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, or other CAD packages. Now that your team has implemented data management for CAD, what’s the next logical step?

The 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud PLM Standard Offer

The 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud PLM Standard Offer provides popular functionality that allows teams to grow beyond basic data management and expand into areas like project planning and bill of materials (BOM) management. These tools allow teams to plan, execute, and monitor project status and conditions in real time. This functionality is fully cloud-based thanks to 3DEXPERIENCE tools like Project Planner and Product Release Engineer. 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud PLM Standard takes the guesswork out of planning projects and bills of materials by giving everyone a single access point and a single source of truth to design data.

Project Planning Power

First, let’s understand one of my favorite roles in the platform: Project Planner. The main reason Project Planner is at the top of my list is not just the execution or simplicity of the tool but also the incredible, tangible benefits it provides to every functional group. This role allows teams to manage their design projects from top to bottom fully in a web browser. The toolset has no installation, can be accessed on any device, and is fully connected to your data. The biggest benefit to this is that we can manage both time and resources while connecting assigned tasks to meaningful data, both CAD files and other documents.

Each project defined comes equipped with a summary page full of useful information. Stakeholders can see milestones and tasks across the lifecycle of the project. Task information is additionally provided to identify “At Risk” tasks and is shown visually through the burn-down rate. This simple user interface allows project planners to quickly access critical information and make informed decisions related to the project.

Like other areas in 3DEXPERIENCE, we can use content tags to filter our view and see who is working on what and when certain tasks are due. We can also leverage time and resource planning to ensure projects are kept on time. Gantt charts are automatically created when assigning tasks with start and end dates to give all stakeholders information on the project’s progress.

Bill of Materials Management

The second of two roles included with the 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud PLM Standard Offer is Product Release Engineer allowing teams to manage bills of materials in a web browser. Today, many customers generate a BOM inside SOLIDWORKS and then export the BOM in tabular format to other systems. When doing this, there is an immediate disconnect between files and processes in the team. The second an Excel BOM is created, it is immediately out-of-date and disconnected from the original CAD files. Product Release Engineer helps with this workflow deficiency by keeping all your data in sync.

While using Product Release Engineer, the entire team plugged into 3DEXPERIENCE is working off of a central data repository, eliminating duplicate files and processes. It allows those consuming the bills of materials to have access to the design data and work directly on that data. By having direct access there is no need to copy the data into another system or worry about working off an older revision of an assembly.

With 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud PLM Standard, team members continue to consume the data from the cloud repository and are working directly on the design data. Changes to the data happen in real time, ensuring everyone is always plugged into the latest working revision of the files. Product Release Engineer also allows for a myriad of ways to visualize data. As seen below, users can leverage design documentation and see powerful cross-highlighting from the bills of material to the graphics area.

The 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud PLM Standard Offer provides two easy-to-use, powerful roles to augment existing design team functionality. It allows teams to add two essential pillars of product release: project management and bill of material management. By adding this package you can extend 3DEXPERIENCE to more than just your core design team and start to include other functional groups that need access to design data.
